I recently received a package of 4 used silk saris from India which I had to use straightaway! So I decided to make a tote bag which could show off the silks to best effect. Here’s my fibre selection with coffee, chocolate and yellow merino wool tops, kettle dyed wool yarn, pink mulberry silk and blue curly locks

nuno felt tote bag fabric and fibre selectionI laid this one out in reverse order starting with the silk and fibres. I laid out some squirls of the purple dyed wool under the plain golden brown silk to add some further colour and texture.

nuno felt tote bagI graded the wool colours from dark brown up to ochre yellow as I thought the yellow would look great with the golden brown plain silk around the top..

The blue and pink fibres showed up much better on the dark brown wool than the light coffee colour. I made a couple of felt rope handles in coffee and yellow. It has a small mobile phone or purse pocket inside. If feels very rich autumnal colourway and will certainly save me from the 5p bag charge in the supermarket many times over.nuno felt tote bag blythwhimsiesnuno felt tote bag closeup blythwhimsies
